Background
My weight had been gradually creeping up over the past ten years and I’d tried various diets in the past with some success, but always put the weight back on. I decided to try an app in the spring of 2020 which again required calorie counting and daily weigh-ins and by the end of the Summer I had lost two stone which felt great!
But and there’s always a but, by early Autumn 2020 I was struggling and feeling totally uninspired to cook and stay healthy again. I was increasingly aware that I needed more help and support to avoid falling back into old habits and putting weight back on.
I’ve been a vegetarian for 30+ years. I had started to incorporate fish into my diet to ensure I was getting enough of the essential nutrients and with three, often hungry, growing teenage boys and a husband who love to eat meat, cooking and eating a healthy, balanced and varied diet (that everyone is happy with!) has definitely had its challenges over the years.
I had also got into a rut buying the same staple, uninspiring vegetables and making the same meals every week and was seriously lacking variety and the inspiration to try new recipes.
Why Gisèle so Well?
I really wanted to build on the progress I had made and get new ideas and recipes to keep the momentum going into the future. Thankfully, this was when I found out about the Gisèle so Well Seasonal Reset starting in November 2020 and Vicky came to my rescue - the timing was perfect!
What’s changed for you?
In the past I was a comfort snacker. I’d have ‘snackcidents’ where I could sometimes be unaware of the quantity and reason I was eating high fat and sugary comfort foods. Looking much more closely at my behaviour during the seasonal reset, I’ve realised that sometimes it was because I was bored or fed up, really not hungry at all. Other times I’d do this because I just forgot to ‘pause’ before eating and take stock of what my body needs at that moment to make better, healthier choices. Focussing on the ‘why’ behind my eating habits and being more mindful, learning how to prevent these ‘trigger’ situations and other ways to respond to them has definitely helped me.
Sometimes whilst at a petrol station in the past I would end up buying a chocolate bar or 2 and just eat them whilst driving but thankfully it is a habit I have managed to avoid doing recently and it feels so good to be more in control around temptation. As well as maintaining my previous weight loss, I’ve continued to lose a few more pounds, so I’m happy with that!
My shopping trolly is also much more varied and our food is more interesting and nutrient rich - we all loved Vicky’s recipe ideas and they are now firm family favourites for us. Overall I feel more in control of my eating habits, which in turn benefits my health. It’s less weight loss focussed for me now but I’m more active, regularly walking, horse riding and doing yoga so a healthier lifestyle!
Vicky has been supportive and friendly; she has really helped me to feel that something is better than nothing and small changes can make a big difference. Just what I needed in 2020/21!!
